Craziness! Someone paid $670,000 for a Ford Sierra

Do you want a Ford Sierra? Then you don’t have to go into too much debt. On occasion sites you can find a copy from 4000 euros. And yes, you pay significantly more for the popular Cosworth versions, but we weren’t expecting that.
What the fool gives for it is the credo in collector country. And that definitely applies to special and vintage cars. A Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is certainly valuable now, but not that valuable.
Ford Sierra auctioned last weekend
This Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 was auctioned at Silverstone Auctions in England last weekend. It must have been a special moment when the gavel fell for a sum of £590,500 (the equivalent of more than 670,000 euros).

Homologation model for the racing class group A
The Sierra RS Cosworth was introduced in March 1985 at the Geneva Motor Show. To homologate the Sierra for the Group A racing class, Ford had to build and sell 5,000 road cars.
Developed by Ford Special Vehicle Engineering, the “Cossie” features a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged Cosworth engine. Of the exactly 5545 units built, 500 were converted to RS500 specification by Aston Martin Tickford.
Five hundred street legal evolution models
This also had to do with the homologation rules. In the Group A class, the racing cars were allowed to be improved, but these improvements had to be homologated with 500 street-legal evolution cars.

We owe these rules to legendary models such as the Lancia Delta Integrale Evo, the BMW M3 Evolution and the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500. The latter had, among other things, an improved chassis and more power (227 instead of 204 hp).
Only 8355 kilometers on the clock
The example sold at Silverstone Auctions had been in the seller’s possession for fourteen years. The odometer shows a mileage of only 8355. In addition, the RS500 is completely original.
