Porsche shows new version of the legendary 356

Porsche has something to celebrate this year, the brand has been in existence for 75 years. As a car brand, you don’t give away slices of cake, you treat yourself to a new concept model. This time the Vision 357, the contemporary version of the 356.

As a car enthusiast you are probably familiar with the 356. The sports car was Porsche’s very first car.

Porsche Vision 357

The lines of the Porsche Vision 357 are very similar to the classic 356. Don’t be under the illusion that the car will ever hit the road. The study model has no headlights and the taillights are missing. Stripes have been added where the lighting should be, but that will never be enough for the headlights.

Although one might expect such a concept car to be electric, the 357 is powered by a 4.0-litre flat-six engine. The powertrain delivers 500 hp and is designed to use e-fuels (synthetic fuels).

“With the Vision 357 we have created a very special birthday present. It underscores the importance of our design DNA based on the 356,” says Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche. “The study is an attempt to connect past, present and future. The proportions are reminiscent of the historical model.”

Based on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS

The reissue of the legendary Porsche 356 is basically a 718 Cayman GT4 RS. Autovisie editor Dries van den Elzen drove the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS last year and explains in the video below why this is one of the most beautiful cars he has ever driven.
