Max Verstappen has won several awards this year. Not only with his championship in Formula 1, he was also driver and sportsman of the year. But what do the Formula 1 drivers think about it?

It is already the fifth time that Formula 1 has held this election. The list isn’t really very useful, although it does give a fun insight into how drivers feel about each other’s performance.

The best Formula 1 driver

The Formula 1 drivers were also allowed to vote for their top 10 points. Not all drivers opted to do so, although the drivers’ voting list is not disclosed.

The points were distributed according to the current Formula 1 point system. You give your favorite 25 points, number two 18, number three 15 and so on, until number ten gets 1 point. These points are then processed in a ranking.

Who took part in the elections?

The Formula 1 drivers taking part in the vote were: Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, Valtteri Bottas, Pierre Gasly, Nicholas Latifi, Charles Leclerc, Kevin Magnussen, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Sergio Perez, Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell, Carlos Sainz . Mick Schumacher, Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, Zhou Guanyu.

F1 in the future

While elections like this are fun, many Formula 1 teams are currently busy with more important things. For example, many teams are already preparing for the new engine regulations that will come into force in 2026. The energy sources of the F1 cars must be simpler, cheaper and more sustainable. The focus is therefore on more electrification and advanced sustainable fuels.

The teams are also getting new competition, for example from Audi. “We have signed for the period from 2026 to 2030. After three years we want to be able to fight for the wins,” says Adam Baker, head of F1 engine development for the German carmaker.
