Nevertheless, petrol and diesel prices remain high. A reason to drive more sparingly. You then not only spend less money on fuel. With these five you are also less polluting.

1. Do not drive short distances

The first tip is simple, just grab your bike more often. This saves fuel and emits fewer pollutants during your journey. This is a good option, especially for short trips. Because an engine consumes more fuel if the fluids and components are not yet at operating temperature.

2. Adjust your driving style

Your driving style has a major impact on your fuel consumption. The most economical way is to drive at a constant speed on the highway. It is important that your speed is not too high. 80 km/h are more economical than 100 km/h. At 130 km/h, consumption increases significantly.

Try to anticipate traffic well. If you take your foot off the gas in good time and brake on the engine, modern cars do not consume any fuel. Anyone who brakes a lot and therefore accelerates a lot uses significantly more petrol or diesel.

The lower your RPM, the less fuel you use. So tune in as soon as possible. This is between 1500 and 2000 rpm for a diesel engine and between 2000 and 2500 rpm for a petrol engine.

3. Opt for less comfort

Windows open, air conditioning on and sunroof open. Driving in summer can be so much fun. But if you don’t want to have a nice trip and drive as economically as possible, then it’s better not to use all this luxury.

With the sunroof open, you quickly consume 0.2 liters more per 100 kilometers. The air conditioning also ensures higher consumption. If you have to choose between having the window open or the air conditioning on, it’s best to leave the window closed. If you don’t need the air conditioner, you’d better turn it off.

4. Scheduling

A lot of fuel is consumed when accelerating and braking. Getting stuck in traffic also causes stationary fuel consumption – unless your car is equipped with the start-stop system.

If you want to use as little petrol or diesel as possible, avoid traffic jams and choose the most efficient route possible. Many navigation systems have an option that allows you to automatically drive the “greenest” route.

5. Technical

There is a lot to gain in the technical area if you want to save fuel. First of all, it is important that your car has been well maintained. This prevents problems that can lead to higher fuel consumption. The tire pressure plays a major role in this. Inflate your tires at least every 2 months. This ensures less rolling resistance and thus lower fuel consumption.

Don’t forget to remove the roof box or roof bars from your car after your vacation. These items on your car cause more drag and a lot of fuel consumption. Don’t leave your vacation things in the car either. Weight has to be moved and costs fuel.

If you drive a newer car, you might be able to put it in an ECO mode. In this mode you often have limited power and the car drives as economically as possible. With all the tips, don’t forget that safety comes first. Extremely slow acceleration does not make sense with vehicles behind you and does not even lead to significantly lower fuel consumption.
