Rivian R3 – The new Lancia Delta Integrale comes from America

It may be sacrilege to say this, but we see design elements of the legendary Lancia in the Rivian R3 and especially the rougher R3X.

What we’re trying to say is that the electric hatchbacks (crossovers?) have a sort of ’80s feel to them, especially when you look at them from the side. The R3/R3X is scheduled to come onto the market in 2027.

Rivian’s announcement comes as a surprise. So far, the American brand only builds two large electric vehicles, the R1T (a full-size pickup) and the R1S (a full-size SUV).

Unfortunately, Rivian hasn’t revealed much about the R3 and R3X. We know that they have a wheelbase of 2.8 meters and the customer can choose between two batteries. The largest has a range of 483 kilometers.

The manufacturer has announced that there will be three versions, with one electric motor, two or even three electric motors. The latter variant accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 3 seconds.

Rivian R2

Then Rivian introduced another model, the R2, which will be positioned below the large R1 and above the R3. The SUV costs from 45,000 US dollars (41,000 euros) in the USA.

It measures 4.7 meters in length and is therefore in the same order of magnitude as the Tesla Model Y, which is slightly cheaper in America. According to Rivian, the R2 can travel a maximum of 499 kilometers with a full battery.

Just like the R3, it is available with one, two or three engines. Both models should be largely “autonomous” (Level 3) and monitor the environment with eleven cameras and five radar sensors.

The Rivian R2 can already be reserved and – if all goes well – will come onto the market in early 2026. In the US, because although Rivian has European plans, we don’t see that yet.
