If the earth ever stands still, this Mercedes-AMG will get it moving again

If the Earth ever starts to spin slower, we’ll have a big problem, but at least we’ll have a solution at hand. This Mercedes-AMG SL 63.
It’s not just any Mercedes-AMG SL 63. It’s a Mercedes-AMG SL 63 E-Performance. And that means it doesn’t produce 585 hp and 800 Nm, but 816 hp and 1420 Nm.
Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Hybrid
Wow! That’s enough torque to tow an Airbus A380 or power the world. The new SL 63 features a hybrid drive that combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with electric drive.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 E-Performance sprints to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds (the “normal” SL 63 is 0.7 seconds less fast) and reaches a top speed of 317 km/h.
Small electric range
Its 204 hp electric motor is powered by a 6.1 kWh battery, which of course does not guarantee a long electric range. After about 13 kilometers the cake is gone.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 E-Performance is equipped with carbon ceramic brake discs, roll stabilization, adaptive dampers and active aerodynamics. It is not known how much the E-Performance weighs, but it will be significantly more than the SL 63’s 1870 kilos.
Why is there a loading dock there?
The position of the tailgate is incomprehensible. It is located at the back right next to the license plate. Mercedes is doing this with more plug-in hybrid models and it looks so ugly.

In addition, the SL 63 E-Performance has an impressive appearance, of course with its red type designation as an identifying feature.
Relatively low CO2 emissions
Theoretically, the hybrid roadster would have to get by on 1 liter of gasoline per 13 kilometers. Its CO2 emissions are lower than the other SLs at 175g/km, so this will probably have an impact on the price, which is not yet known.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 43 with 381 hp is available from 172,655 euros. For the SL 55 and SL 63 you pay at least 246,930 and 279,132 euros respectively. They are 476 and 585 hp.
