The current Mazda MX-5 receives another update (and an electric successor)

When we wrote this news about the Mazda MX-5, we were a bit shocked because we didn’t know that the current generation has been on the market for almost nine years (!).
Let’s just say the Mazda MX-5 ND, as the fourth generation is called, still looks young. That’s why Mazda decided not to do much to the appearance.
Mazda MX-5 slightly revised
The revised MX-5 is hardly recognizable as such. The designers slightly changed the arrangement of the headlights and light units with a 3D effect were added to the rear.

Officially, the changes only apply to the Japanese variant of the MX-5, but it won’t be long before the European version also gets a facelift.
Brown interior, beige convertible top
It’s a bit of a shame that the radiator grille now has a black piece of plastic on the left side (viewed from the cockpit). Behind it is the radar sensor for the new adaptive cruise control with emergency braking function.

Mazda is also introducing an additional body color (Aero Grey), some other alloy wheels are available to order and buyers can opt for an interior with brown upholstery. A beige hood is also new.

Remarkably, Mazda keeps the meters behind the steering wheel analog. However, the MX-5 will soon launch with a larger 8.8-inch multimedia screen and a faster infotainment system.
Entry level engine with 4 hp more
Are there any changes under the hood? Naturally. The entry-level engine, a 1.5-liter, produces 4 hp and now produces 136 hp. Nothing changes with the 2.0-liter. It’s still enough for 184 hp.

Mazda has also worked on the steering and has given all MX-5s with manual transmissions a new limited-slip differential and a DSC track mode in which the stability control allows more.
Mazda MX-5 electric?
By the way, the current MX-5 still has to hold out for a while. The successor will reportedly not come onto the market until 2026. It is known that it will be “electrified” and it seems logical that it will have an electric drive.
