Dive into the price list: Volkswagen Touareg – back with a vengeance

The Volkswagen Touareg underwent a facelift and received primarily a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Reason enough for Volkswagen to give the car another try in the Netherlands. Let’s familiarize ourselves again with a look at the price list.

The current third generation Volkswagen Touareg came onto the market in 2018. Also in the Netherlands. You could say that he promoted the idea, especially in the price list, because with a 3.0-liter V6 TDI as the only engine choice it wouldn’t deliver the large numbers. Of course, the addition of a 3.0-liter V6 TSI and even a 4.0-liter V8 didn’t help either.

The new Volkswagen Touareg

But now the Volkswagen Touareg is back. The model underwent a preliminary facelift for the 2023 model year. The visual changes are limited (the biggest news is a large rear light bar across the entire width), but the changes under the skin are much more important. The SUV is now also available as a plug-in hybrid and understandably this is the only variant coming to the Netherlands. More about the facelift.

Specifications of the Volkswagen Touareg

Since only the plug-in hybrid version is supplied in our country, the Volkswagen Touareg is only available in two versions. The Elegance has 280 kW (381 hp) and 600 Nm, 100 km/h is reached in 5.9 seconds and the “standard” speed is 250 km/h. Thanks to plug-in hybrid technology, consumption is limited to 2.2 l/100 km (WLTP).

However, there is also the Volkswagen Touareg R. Yes, the sporty top model is now also a plug-in hybrid. Then you have 340 kW (462 hp) at your disposal, plus 600 Nm of torque. 100 km/h is reached in 5.1 seconds and the top speed remains at 250 km/h. Despite the additional power, the official WLTP consumption should also be at the same level as the regular version.

Prices renewed Volkswagen Touareg

Does the plug-in hybrid drive really make the Volkswagen Touareg more affordable? Yes, but everything is relative. Before the facelift, the Elegance version had a starting price of 90,580 euros (diesel) or 100,930 euros (petrol). The absolute basic price was 80,840 euros for the diesel in a less luxurious version. The Touareg Elegance is now available from 89,990 euros, for the sporty R you have to bring at least 99,990 euros. So it’s not a bargain, but it makes a difference.

Volkswagen Touareg equipment

Of course you get a well-equipped car for the money. Some highlights of the standard equipment: 19-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a digital “cockpit”, panoramic sliding/tilting roof, extra tinted rear windows and an electrically operated tailgate. Things like adaptive cruise control, parking assistant and other driver assistance systems are of course also included.

Due to the relatively low additional costs, we opt for the Volkswagen Touareg R. Then there are 20-inch alloy wheels, air suspension, an adaptive chassis and a slightly sportier interior and exterior design.

Outdoor decoration

The Volkswagen Touareg is delivered in white as standard. Black, two shades of gray, very dark brown and red are available for an additional charge of 1,090 euros. For an additional charge of 1,520 euros, you can choose between a very dark blue or a slightly lighter color. The most expensive body color is matt dark gray at 3,040 euros. Then you also have to choose black 21-inch rims, which means a total additional cost of 3,808 euros. We choose the lighter dark blue, which best suits an R model.

The standard 20-inch rims can be exchanged for 21-inch rims (bicolor or completely black, depending on your preference) for 950 euros or for 22-inch rims (also bicolor or completely black) for 2,050 euros. We choose black 21-inch models.

Interior decoration

There are two options for the interior of the Volkswagen Touareg. Either way, you get black leather, which can optionally be enhanced with an additional pattern and blue stitching. You also get heated seats in the rear as well as seat ventilation and a massage function at the front. Additionally, you must choose the Memory package, with a memory function for adjusting the seats, steering wheel and exterior mirrors. This means the total additional costs amount to 4,300 euros. Come on, let’s get this done.

Packages and options

Then we come to the option packages. Despite the name, the comfort package mainly includes a few airbags and the windshield is heated and acoustically dampened. Costs 1,130 euros. All right then. For 680 euros, the storage package includes some practical things for the luggage compartment, but also an additional 230 V connection and electrically operated sun visors in the rear. We tick this box too. The multimedia package with head-up display and Dynaudio sound system is available for a whopping 3,060 euros extra. For this extra luxury, we choose the Volkswagen Touareg.

You can get soft-close doors for 640 euros, so we don’t check that box. We also leave the night vision function for 1,910 euros (visually recognizable as a “block” with a camera in the radiator grille) as it is. The additional parking aids can be booked for 610 euros, but we forego the trailer hitch with Trailer Assist (1,440 euros).

Assemble the Volkswagen Touareg yourself

Ultimately, the total price of our configuration is 112,058 euros. As already mentioned, the Volkswagen Touareg is still not a bargain, but it does make a difference to what a comparable version without the plug-in hybrid drive would have cost. You can easily assemble the new Volkswagen Touareg yourself at www.volkswagen.nl.
