That’s why a red Ferrari sucks

Let’s say you’ve worked hard, built a great company and can finally afford a Ferrari. A childhood dream comes true. What do you do then? Do you order your Ferrari in red? Or do you swim against the tide and choose a real color?

Ferrari isn’t our favorite brand, we’ll admit that, but we can’t like a Ferrari in red at all. It’s like a silver Mercedes-AMG or a gray Porsche 911: boring!

What percentage of Ferraris are red?

In the early 1990s, 85 percent of Ferrari buyers ordered their car in red. This percentage currently (fortunately) fluctuates around 40 percent. This is due to the launch of the Tailor Made program, which allows ordering a personalized Ferrari.

Ferrari

At Maranello in the 1960s there was only one way to get your body paint: to meet Enzo Ferrari. Because only in very exceptional cases did it allow a different color tone.

Beautiful color Del Rio Verde Medi0

So the owner of this magnificent 275 GTB/4 was lucky. We know his name was Daniel Del Rio and he was a stockbroker on Wall Street in New York. The man had taste, because he ordered his car in a color that would later be called Del Rio Verde Medio.

He also wanted his 275 GTB/4 without bumpers and with an orange-brown leather interior. He also asked the factory to fit a different gas cap. One from racing.

Estimated price between 4 and 5 million dollars

Del Rio owned his beautiful coupe from 1967 until at least 1975. After that, the car traveled all over the world, from the United States to England and from Japan back to America.

Too bad the Ferrari has been in an air-conditioned garage for the last sixteen years and has hardly been outside. It will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s in Monterey in mid-August and is estimated at $4-5 million.
