Why the Aston Martin DB12 is more than a redesign | Sjoerd’s Facts 354

With the DB12, Aston Martin is launching a true product offensive, just like the legendary English brand did with its predecessor, the DB11. The DB12 builds on the DB11 but completely overshadows this model. Sjoerd van Bilsen explains how this works in a new episode of Sjoerds Weetjes.

The DB12 name is brand new, but then again, it’s not. It will be used for the first time as part of the Aston Martin program. However, the car manufacturer established the designation back in 2015 when it also registered the name DB11 for its predecessor. Back then, DB12 wasn’t the only nameplate associated with Aston Martin, DB13, DBE and DBR were also reserved for future models. That the successor to the DB11 would be called the DB12 is no real surprise. Still, the DB12 is not an entirely new model. The changes are so radical that a new callsign is understandable.

The Aston Martin DB12

In this episode of Sjoerds Weetjes, the newcomer is introduced. The sports coupe is uncovered and it is explained in which area the DB12 requires distance to the DB11. The Autovisie test editors will explain at a later date how the 2+2 model, dubbed the Super Tourer, affects the driving characteristics.

It should be clear that the Aston Martin DB12 has a different handling and character. Thanks to the renewed chassis with different shock absorbers and the parts mentioned by Sjoerd in this video, the DB12 has to be the superlative of the DB11.

Aston Martin is now presenting the DB12 as a coupe. A second body variant will follow soon. According to reports, the manufacturer will show the Volante with a soft top later this year, after which production is scheduled to start in April 2024. There will be no other flavors for the time being. The English are already concentrating on the successor to the DB12. According to Gaydon’s latest information, it will be all-electric.
