Due to outstanding invoices, the New York prosecutor’s office has asked the music labels Sony and Universal to transfer any royalties and other benefits claims of the ex-pop star and convicted sex offender R. Kelly (56). Kelly owes two victims about $380,000 and has about $140,000 in fines outstanding, prosecutors in New York said Thursday. So far, Kelly has paid about $28,000.
Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison last year during a trial in New York for, among other things, sexual abuse of minors. In mid-September, the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer was also found guilty in a Chicago trial. A jury found evidence that the 55-year-old had had sex with minors and produced child pornography. In February, Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Chicago for similar offenses – however, the judge ruled that the ex-pop star can serve most sentences in parallel. The singer’s defense has announced an appeal in both cases. (saw/sda/dpa)
