Armored vehicles and pro-Ukrainian fighters managed to cross the border into Russia. Heavy fighting raged in the Belgorod region on Thursday and Friday – two Russian women were killed.

The partisans, also known as the fighters of the “Legion Free Russia” and the “Russian Volunteer Corps”, want to cause chaos around Belgorod. Your mission: to awaken the Russian people and overthrow Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin (70).

In Russia, the protagonists are known. According to Kremlin media, many of them are partisans deemed “right-wing extremists” and have been expelled from the country.

So far, the Kremlin has tried to play down the situation, but fear is growing among the population. The shock among the Russians runs deep. Many wonder how armored vehicles could cross the border so easily. This is the second attack in a few weeks.

As early as May 22, hundreds of fighters crossed the border and occupied several villages in the region. According to Russian information, the fighters were repelled, but “there will be more such attacks by Russian partisans,” Gerhard Mangott, 56, a military expert at the University of Innsbruck, warned last Tuesday.

Second large-scale attack on Russian soil

The expert was right. The “Russian Volunteer Corps” announced “Phase 2” of their operation on Wednesday and the attack followed on Thursday. In the town of Schebekino in Belgorod Oblast, residents had to be evacuated. The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov (54), spoke of “continuous attacks” with 12 injured and 29 buildings damaged within 24 hours. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, “civil facilities” were bombed, including a kindergarten.

A few hours later, the Kremlin claimed to have killed 50 militants. “We do not negotiate with terrorists,” said former president Dimitry Medvedev (57) on Thursday evening. And: The situation does not change the “special operation in Ukraine”. But the situation in Belgorod remains tense.

Eyewitnesses report shelling: two killed

On Friday, eyewitnesses reported to the Telegram channel “Astra” that the shelling around Belgorod continued. The “Legion Free Russia” published images of battles in the village of Novaya Tavolshanka, very close to Shebekino. Local residents say passages have been blocked by the army because of “barrage”, it is said.

Civilians were ordered to stay indoors on Friday. According to Gladkov, two women were killed in a car in Malaya Pristan. According to Russian neo-Nazis, the Russian army fired at the vehicle. Two men were injured.

No capacity to reinforce the front?

Even if politicians cover up attacks on Russian soil, the Russian government faces a real dilemma, according to British intelligence. Either the Russian army reinforces the fronts in view of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, or it deploys more troops on the border to prevent further attacks in Russian cities.
