In the new ARD “Germany trend”, the AfD (Alternative for Germany) gains two percentage points and would be elected with 18 percent if there were a general election on Sunday. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s SPD lost a percentage point to 18 percent in the Infratest dimap survey – compared to the survey at the beginning of May.
The Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) are clearly the strongest with 29 percent (-1). The Greens lose a point and reach 15 percent, the weakest value since September 2021. The FDP (Liberals) is stuck at 7 percent. With 4 percent (-1), the left missed the five percent hurdle to enter parliament.
According to ARD, this is the best value for the AfD in the Sunday question in the “Germany trend”. It was not until September 2018 that the party had reached this value. For two-thirds of AfD supporters, immigration plays a major role when asked about the top three issues. 32 percent of AfD supporters say they want to vote for the party out of conviction, 67 percent out of disappointment with the other parties.
The AfD was founded in the spring of 2013. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the entire AfD as a suspected right-wing extremist. The party has been in the Bundestag since 2017. In the 2021 election, she won 10.3 percent nationwide.
