Detectives have arrested 212 suspects in an international operation against organized human trafficking. A total of 1,400 alleged victims have been identified in 44 countries, including 12 from Switzerland, authorities said on Thursday.
According to information from Europol, these involved forced prostitution, forced labor and smuggling activities. Dubbed “Global Chain”, the operation targeted criminal gangs operating in Africa, Asia, South America, the Balkans and Ukraine.
Victims from eleven different cantons
In Switzerland, the alleged victims came from eleven different cantons, according to the Federal Police Service (Fedpol).
About 130,000 workers were involved in the operation, which was controlled by Austria and Romania. A total of 1.6 million people were checked at border posts, airports and train stations. A suspected extremist who has been wanted since 2015 has been arrested in Bulgaria. (SDA)
