A violent brawl broke out during a football tournament.

Tragedy in Hesse: At an international youth football tournament, a team from France met a club from Berlin.

After the final whistle, there were tumultuous arguments culminating in a fight between the players. The 16-year-old from France allegedly hit the 15-year-old from Berlin in the head or neck.

The 15-year-old then collapsed and had to be resuscitated. He was taken to a hospital. There was a life-threatening brain injury. He has now been declared brain dead.

Prison sentence for 16 year olds

The “Hessenschau” reports this on Tuesday evening, citing a police spokesperson. The suspect is a 16-year-old boy and is now in custody. The police judge has arrested the 16-year-old.

The French club FC Metz reacted “bewildered”. The club said on its website that the player denied “intentionally causing physical harm to the young injured player”.

Berlin club hit

As the Berlin Football Association (BFV) confirmed on Tuesday evening according to the RBB, the Berlin club JFC Berlin. BFV President Bernd Schultz sent his condolences to family members and team members. “We have been in close contact with JFC Berlin since Sunday to support the club and its members where possible,” explains Schultz.
