Russian partisans fighting on the side of Ukraine recently attacked the Belgorod region.

The Russian border region of Belgorod has not calmed down since the beginning of the war. Drone attacks or pro-Ukrainian fighters invading villages are of great concern to citizens in the region.

The governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov (54), commented on the situation in his region in an interview with state broadcaster Rossiya 1 on Monday. “What can be done for security in the border areas?” the reporter asks him. “Come with Kharkiv to Belgorod Oblast,” Gladkov replies.

“Do you believe in such a possibility?” the reporter wants to know. “This is the best way to solve the shelling problem in Belgorod Oblast,” Gladkov replied.

His statement was met with misunderstanding on social media. “What about ending the war? And withdraw Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine to guard Belgorod and other regions,” reads one comment. “An attempt has already failed,” writes another user.

Last fall, Vladimir Putin’s troops (70) had to withdraw from Kharkiv. For regrouping in the Donetsk region – as it was officially called. But observers and experts had pointed to the Ukrainians’ successful offensive as the cause. The Russian soldiers were under such pressure that they had no choice but to withdraw from the occupied territory. (man)
