“This morning the Kiev regime committed a terrorist act using unmanned missiles against objects in the city of Moscow,” Russia’s defense ministry said on Tuesday. A total of eight drones were deployed, all of which have since been destroyed. Three were deflected from their original trajectory, the remaining five were shot down by Russian air defenses, it said.
Moscow has not provided any evidence to support the allegations. There was initially no response from Ukraine, against which Russia has been waging an offensive war for more than 15 months.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin previously reported that his city had been attacked by drones in the early hours of the morning. Some residential buildings were slightly damaged and two people were slightly injured, he wrote. Social networks reportedly reported that some 25 unmanned aerial vehicles had flown towards Moscow.
Russia has been waging a war of aggression against neighboring Ukraine for more than 15 months. In recent weeks, shelling and drone attacks have also increased in Russian regions.
The most spectacular incident probably occurred in early May when two flying objects were shot down directly over the Kremlin. Moscow blamed the Kiev leadership for the alleged attempted assassination of President Vladimir Putin and spoke of “terror” at the time. Ukraine, on the other hand, denied any involvement. Many international observers consider it likely that the attack on the Kremlin was organized by Moscow itself to justify the brutal attacks on the neighboring country.
