About 40 crocodiles have killed a man in Cambodia after he fell into the animals’ enclosure. The 72-year-old wanted to free a crocodile from its cage at his family’s farm where it had laid eggs, Siem Reap city police chief Mey Savry said Friday. The animal seized the man’s goad and pulled him into the enclosure.

Other crocodiles then came and “attacked him until he was dead,” police chief Savry said. The animals would have mauled the man, his remains were cut through by bite wounds. The 72-year-old’s arm was bitten off and devoured by the crocodiles.

There are several crocodile farms in the Siem Reap area. In 2019, a two-year-old girl was killed and eaten by crocodiles while walking around her family’s farm in the same community. The reptiles are kept for their skin, eggs and meat, and for the trade in young animals. (AFP)
