Her grandson Reef Chang announced the death of his grandmother Hsu Sho-er on social media on Friday: “We know that grandmother will be free from illness and pain from now on.” He thanked the last 627,000 fans on Instagram: “Because of you, our family and grandma have had many unforgettable memories that no one else has.”
With her husband Chang Wan-ji, who was a year younger than her, Hsu Sho-er ran a laundromat in Houli District, Taichung City for more than 60 years. Her grandson came up with the idea three years ago during the Corona pandemic to photograph them both in clothes that customers had not picked up.

His grandparents turned out to be talented quick change artists, seemed casual and playful – also with trendy sunglasses and sneakers. Her Instagram account @wantshowasyoung became a “welcome mood lifter” in a difficult Corona year, as the fashion magazine “Vogue” wrote.
Even Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen expressed her condolences on the laundry’s Facebook page, writing, “I believe Grandma Sho-er’s smile will live on in everyone’s hearts forever.” (SDA)
