The investigating judge had decided that pre-trial detention was no longer necessary for the investigation. These continued.

Kaili is suspected of being part of the bribery scandal in the European Parliament that became public late last year. This concerns alleged influence on parliamentary decisions by the governments of Qatar and Morocco. The public prosecutor accuses the suspect of corruption, money laundering and membership of a criminal organization.

The Greek woman was arrested in early December. In April, she was released from prison after about four months, but initially had to remain under house arrest under electronic surveillance.

MEP Marc Tarabella and Francesco Giorgi, Kaili’s partner, are also involved in the scandal. Both were granted house arrest earlier this month. The alleged mastermind Antonio Panzeri is currently still under electronic surveillance.

MEP Andrea Cozzolino has also been accused of taking money from countries such as Qatar and Morocco to influence decisions in the EU parliament in their favour.
