The authorities in Germany struck Wednesday morning. They searched the buildings and apartments of the ‘last generation’ climate stickers at a total of 15 locations. Kleber’s website was also blocked.
After the block, the police warned on the homepage of the “last generation”: “The homepage of the last generation was confiscated on behalf of the public prosecutor’s office of Munich (…)” is written in red letters. And: “The last generation represents a criminal organization according to § 129 StGB.”
It is precisely the latter formulation that causes internal unrest among the authorities, a ZDF journalist announced on Twitter. Because whether the “Last Generation” is actually a criminal organization has not yet been legally clarified – there is no corresponding court decision.
Prosecutor and LKA contradict each other
The Bavarian Criminal Investigation Department nevertheless places a corresponding message on the blocked website. Even when the journalist asked about it, the state criminal investigation department stuck to the wording – writing that the Munich public prosecutor’s office had ordered it.
Only: that is not the case. When the ZDF journalist inquired at the public prosecutor’s office, they suddenly distanced themselves from the wording.
The warning was based on “the basis of the search warrant”. However, there is only the first suspicion that it could be a criminal organization. Therefore “it has now been decided to delete the reference.”
Thursday new website
In fact, late in the evening it only appears that the website has been seized. It is no longer a criminal organization. The public echo has even made authorities feel compelled to comment on the change move on social media.
The warning from the police had already disappeared on Thursday morning. Instead, you will be redirected from the German website “lategeneration.de” to the website “lategeneration.org”. On this, the climate stickers advertise their social media accounts and list new email addresses as the old ones are also affected by the block.
The “Last Generation” announced on Wednesday evening that it wanted to take legal action against the website blocking. (zis)
