A huge fire broke out in a multi-storey building in the center of the Australian metropolis of Sydney.
The fire raged on Elizabeth Street near Central Station in the Surry Hills district, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Thursday citing police. More than 50 people have been evacuated from the building, according to broadcaster 9News.

The dense black clouds of smoke could be seen almost everywhere in the city by midday (local time), it was said. A large contingent of the fire brigade and other rescue workers was deployed. Numerous roads in the area were closed. (aeg/sda/dpa)
