The party of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has grown to 41.1 percent (2019: 39.9 percent) after more than a third of the vote, the Interior Ministry announced in Athens on Sunday evening. The left-wing party Syriza, the largest opposition party, lost 20.1 percent (31.5 percent). The social-democratic Pasok was third with 12.5 percent (8.1 percent).
The communists, with 6.8 percent, and the right-wing populist Elliniki Lysi, with 4.5 percent, also passed the three percent threshold to parliament. Former finance minister Giannis Varoufakis’s left-wing Mera25 party had to tremble with 2.37 percent and the ultra-conservative party Niki with 2.9 percent, participating for the first time. Turnout was again low: only 56.5 percent of eligible voters went to the polls.
