The most expensive ice cream in the world has made it into the Guinness Book of Records.

No more sushi, sashimi and ramen: Japan is now known for the most expensive ice cream in the world. The Japanese company Cellato can now shine in the Guinness Book of Records. The pleasure costs 6696 dollars per scoop (converted: 6050 francs).

For the Byakuya flavor, the company has lumped together the rarest and most expensive ingredients. White truffle from Italy, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and a by-product of the Japanese rice wine Sake. The truffle alone costs more than 6,000 francs per kilo. But the icing on the cake is the edible gold leaf.

Top chef Yamada helped create it

The company managed to create this extraordinary creation in collaboration with Tadayoshi Yamada, a renowned Japanese chef. At his gourmet restaurant Rivi in the Japanese metropolis of Osaka, Yamada combines flavors from European and Japanese cuisine.

It reportedly took a year and a half before the manufacturers were satisfied with the result. “It was well worth the effort for the entry in the Guinness Book,” says a Cellato spokesperson.

Champagne and caviar for the next project

The Guinness Book team was of course allowed to taste the ice cream. They describe the taste as rich, truffle accentuated and slightly fruity – all in all a “wonderful taste experience”.

According to reports, Cellato is already planning the next project. Champagne and caviar should be high on the list of ingredients for the next creation. (lia)
