“Brexit has failed,” the right-wing populist told the BBC. According to him, the country would not be better off in the EU either. However, the United Kingdom has so far not benefited economically from the historic move. He blamed the ruling Conservative Party for not delivering, the former UKIP leader said.

A government spokesman denied the allegations on Tuesday. As an example, he cited alleged benefits for agriculture. “We have a fairer system tailored to post-Brexit British farmers.”

Farage said on Monday evening: “Brexit has shown that our politicians are just as useless as the (EU) Commissioners in Brussels. (…) We’ve done it all wrong.” For example, the promise of stricter immigration controls has not been fulfilled, he said.

A few years ago, Farage announced he would leave the UK if Brexit failed. His emigration was now mockingly expected on social media.

Farage was one of the most outspoken supporters of leaving the EU, along with Boris Johnson. Critics accuse the politicians of building their election campaign ahead of the 2016 Brexit referendum on lies and false information. According to analysts and authorities, Brexit has caused enormous damage to the British economy. (SDA)
