A man armed with a baseball bat allegedly broke into the electoral office of a US congressman in Virginia and hospitalized two of his employees. Gerry Connolly, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, 73, said Monday the man asked for him in the Fairfax office Monday morning before attacking the two employees. He is now in police custody. The two employees were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The thought of someone taking advantage of my employees’ local presence to commit an act of violence is brutal and devastating,” Connolly said.
Threats against politicians, their relatives or employees have been on the rise in the United States for some time now. In November, a few days before the US general election, top politician Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked and seriously injured in the couple’s home. (sda/dpa)
