US complains about curtailment of religious freedom in China and Russia Wagner’s boss plays twice: Prigozhin made a treacherous offer to Ukraine

The US government has complained of severe restrictions on religious freedom in China and Russia. When the US State Department presented its annual report on the state of religious freedom in the world on Monday in Washington, the US State Department pointed to these two countries as negative examples, among others. China has also arrested, imprisoned and exiled Muslim Uyghurs to re-education camps over the past year, said Rashad Hussain, the U.S. State Department’s commissioner for religious freedom. The repression of Tibetan Buddhists, Chinese Christians and followers of the banned Falun Gong sect movement also continues, many of whom have fled the attacks. A senior ministry official complained that the situation in China continued to deteriorate.

Hussain said Russia also continues to target religious communities inside and outside its borders. “Brave people of faith in Russia who dare to speak out against the country’s ruthless action against Ukraine are being deliberately suppressed,” he said. The US State Department also denounced abuses in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, India and Myanmar. Each year, the ministry publishes detailed country reports on the situation of religious freedom in the world. (sda/dpa)
