They just wanted to help: Ilse B.* (71) and Jan O.* (79) took in a young couple in Portugal. In exchange for hot food and a roof over their heads, the couple would have to work on the German estate. The two pensioners had to pay for the generous gesture with their lives.
On Wednesday, police in southern Portugal’s Alentejo region made the shocking discovery that the couple’s bodies had been found. That writes the “image”.
son worried
The two German pensioners had decided to live abroad. The couple lived on the edge of a quiet Portuguese community in a house with lots of land. But the dream of a life in the warm south came to a bad end.
Now the police have arrested two suspected perpetrators, a woman (37) and a man (54). The killers lived with the couple for a week, it is now known. According to the police, the two had asked the Germans if they could live in their house. But then there was a disagreement that probably degenerated.
It is thanks to her son that they started looking for the pensioners. After all, when he had not received any sign of life from his parents for a month, he reported to the German embassy in Portugal. Shortly afterwards, the two bodies were found in “an advanced state of decomposition”, as local authorities confirm.
Tat happened about a month ago
As reported by Portuguese media, the two seniors were reportedly beaten to death in mid-April. However, the background to the incident remains initially unclear. (lia)
