This is the coat of animal rights activist Andreas Kieling after he was attacked by a brown bear. After the incident, the animal filmmaker informed his fans on Facebook with two photos.

He sits on the meadow with a frozen face. A liquid drips from his blond hair. It’s blood – and it’s everywhere. Face, hands and clothes dripping.

Documentary maker Andreas Kieling (63) actually wanted to film ‘rare waterfowl in the Hochkaarten’, he tells his approximately 355,000 followers on Facebook. Then the German was overpowered by a brown bear. He writes this under two shocking photos on Sunday morning, Bild reports.

Kieling is and will always be an animal lover

The brutal scene is said to have taken place a week ago in the Carpathian Mountains. In addition to wolves and lynxes, brown bears are also found in the region.

Despite the brutal attack, the 63-year-old defended the animal on Facebook: “The bear is fine, he was just following his instincts!” The animal probably wanted to defend its territory. “I’m fine again!” writes Kieling to reassure his fans.

Backgrounds remain unclear

After five hours, his post already has 587 comments. ‘What a gentleman. Wounded so badly he’s still protecting the bear,” one user wrote. However, some are angry about his gory picture. Someone writes: “Post such a violent and shocking picture without warning and explanation!”

It’s no secret that Kieling is a wildlife and animal rights activist. In the past he has taken great risks to capture exceptional bear images. Exactly where the violent attack took place remains unclear. (lia)
