Due to a strike, train passengers in England had to accept significant restrictions on Saturday. (archive image)

These included express services between London and Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports and many other connections across the country. The rail operators warned that there would be “few or no connections” on large parts of the route network and also warned of disruptions in the coming days.

Transport Minister Mark Harper accused the union of focusing “cynically” on the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. While the operations of local transport company Mersey Rail were not affected by the strike, travel from more distant parts of the country is likely to be affected by the strikes.

RMT Secretary General Mick Lynch apologized for the inconvenience but stressed that the timing was chosen for legal reasons. In addition, there is no date when people do not have important messages. The union demands better wages and working conditions. She declined an offer from the employer on Friday.
