American woman known from documentary found guilty of murdering her children

An American woman, known for the Netflix documentary series ‘The Crimes of Our Mother’, has been found guilty of the murder of her two youngest children. A court also found it proven that the 49-year-old was involved in plans to kill her husband’s ex-wife. American media reported this Friday from the courtroom in the city of Boise, Idaho. According to prosecutors, at the time of the 2019 crime, the pair considered themselves divine figures whose job it was to rid the world of “zombie” spirits that populated their children, among others.

The woman now faces a life sentence. The sentence will be determined as usual in the US, but only at a later date. She pleaded not guilty at trial. Her husband also has to answer for himself in court – and also pleaded not guilty. According to reporters present, the woman showed no emotion when the verdict was announced. Important parts of the trial revolved around the couple’s extreme religious beliefs.

The verdict marks the end of three years of investigation. In the fall of 2019, a large-scale search was conducted for the two children after the grandparents informed the authorities that they had not heard from them for more than a month. When the police visited the couple at their home, they were gone – to Hawaii to get married. The children’s bodies were later found on the couple’s property and in a pet cemetery. The many bizarre details are the subject of a documentary series that has also made the case known in Switzerland. (sda/dpa)
