There were arrests in Serbia, Belgium and the Netherlands. A total of 13 suspects had been arrested in Serbia, authorities had announced the day before. Including three leaders of the gang.
After months of intensive investigation, officials struck in Serbia and the Netherlands on Thursday. The European Police Authority announced that 35 buildings had been searched. 15 luxury cars and jewelery and watches worth more than two million euros were seized. The detectives also secured €3 million in cash, weapons, explosives and ammunition.
The gang is said to be responsible for shipping at least seven tons of cocaine from South America to Europe. According to Europol, she was notorious in the underworld for her acts of violence and robberies of luxury goods. One of the suspects is said to be the former leader of the infamous Pink Panther gang. She is held responsible by detectives for some 380 armed robberies in which jewelery worth more than 330 million euros was stolen.
According to Europol, the attack on the gang became possible after criminals cracked the encrypted Sky ECC communication network in 2021. Since then, detectives had already achieved several spectacular investigative successes.
In this last case, officials in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Serbia had collaborated, assisted by Europol’s drugs unit.
