The police arrived in full gear.

In Allgäu (D), a man in a Batman costume caused a huge police operation. A passer-by had warned the police because a man in camouflage uniform and with a weapon belt had walked through the streets of Kempten, the Spiegel reports.

About 30 police officers then left. When the 21-year-old was checked, it turned out that the man was wearing a superhero costume and had a toy gun with him. “So there was no danger to the population,” the police write in their statement.

According to local media reports, “Batman” has been in Kempten for several years. But now the “protector of Kempten”, as the man calls himself on Instagram, is moving to Munich. “I really just wanted to do one last radio interview,” he wrote in a post.

Instruction – but no consequences

“As I left the building, two patrol cars approached me and stopped me. Several police officers get out, all in full equipment: body armor, helmets and (no nonsense) submachine guns and tasers.”

He was then questioned while other officials appeared. He has nothing to fear from a criminal point of view: walking around in a Batman costume is not punishable.

Nevertheless, he was given instructions, police spokesman Holger Stabik told the “Bild”. “If I’m out in a suit like that – and with a gun holstered and looking real from a distance – you shouldn’t be surprised if someone calls the police.”

The disguised Batman saw that too. “I would like to offer my sincere apologies for initiating major surgery today,” he wrote on Instagram. (zis)
