He Former President of the United States Donald Trump this Wednesday, he refused the sentence for sexually abusing the writer E. Jean Carroll which he received on Tuesday and claimed that he had never seen that woman in his life.
During a meeting with citizens organized by CNN, the Republican mocked the prosecutor who accused him of abusing her in the dressing rooms of a New York chain of department stores and assured that the trial was bought.
“I swear to my children that I have no idea who this woman is. It’s a fake story, made up,” said the Republican who was ordered to pay Caroll $5 million in damages for the “damage” caused to her and her reputation.
Trump also took the opportunity to mock Caroll, calling her “crazy,” to applause and laughter from an audience assembled by one of America’s major television networks.
On the show, Trump was quizzed by reporter Kailtan Collins and audience members on a variety of topics, including the storming of the Capitol, the 2020 election in which he was defeated by incumbent Joe Biden, the war in Ukraine and abortion. .
Interactions between Trump and the reporter heated up at various times, and the former president even went so far as to insult Collins by calling her an “unpleasant person”, which the public greeted with a standing ovation.
The former president once again repeated his false accusations of electoral fraud in the presidential election that brought victory to Biden, pointing out that it was a “rigged” election.
In turn, he defended his actions during the attack on the Capitol, which is being investigated by a special prosecutor from the Department of Justice.
On January 6, the day hundreds of his supporters stormed the Congress building and killed 5 people, “it was a beautiful and incredible day,” the former president said.
“It was the biggest crowd I’ve ever spoken to… they were proud and had love in their hearts,” Trump said.
The former president went a step further in his defense on January 6 and assured that, if elected president, he would offer a presidential pardon to a large number of people convicted by the judiciary for acts during the attack.
“I’m inclined to pardon a lot of them,” Trump said, referring to the more than 300 people who were convicted of various crimes committed on Jan. 6, including assault, destruction of government property or sedition.
Trump, however, dismissed other ongoing judicial investigations, including the case over the handling of classified documents and his attempt to interfere in the Georgia vote count.
The Republican has maintained a strained relationship with CNN and its reporters during his tenure and has repeatedly described the television channel as a spreader of “fake news.”
CNN’s decision to air such a show with Trump was sharply criticized by some Democratic politicians and political analysts.
“I think it was a deeply irresponsible decision (…) that put the victim of sexual abuse in danger and it was shameful,” said Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in an interview with MSNBC.
For his part, lawmaker Daniel Goldman wrote on his Twitter: “Why did CNN organize a Trump rally?”
