In the night from Sunday to Sunday, a Berlin school class in a holiday camp was attacked, threatened and racially insulted by a group of young people. The interrogations of the students now show that the attackers were clearly masked and smashed windows and doors.
As “Focus” reports, the aggressive mob consisted of a group of 28 people. A spokesman for Cottbus police told the newspaper: “The attackers appeared at the camp around midnight with masked faces.” This is evident from witness interviews with students aged 15 and 16.
“Xenophobic Slogans”
The crowd thrashed around aggressively, police said, banging wildly on the doors of the shelter and making shocking racial slurs. There were also massive threats and assaults against students with a migration background.
The police spokesman told “Focus”: “The revelers threatened the students to beat them up.” According to the current state of the investigation, the young adults were also registered as overnight guests at the property.
Even before the escalation, there was hostility from within the group. “You can imagine how that must have affected the students after they had been verbally assaulted before,” the spokesperson continued.
Holiday camp condemns attack
The holiday camp “KiEZ Frauensee” responds to the incident via Instagram: The facility strongly condemns any form of xenophobia and racism.
The class had gone to Lake Frauensee in the German state of Brandenburg for a weekend to prepare for an upcoming math test. The group of young people from the region celebrated a birthday at the Frauensee.
That evening, the concerned parents had to pick up their children. The group was escorted from the holiday camp in two police cars. The Brandenburg State Security is investigating the attackers for incitement to hatred. (A)
