Offends many: the work of art “Fuck abstraction!” shows how a child verbally pleases an adult (Blick pixelated the part in question).

A controversial painting by Swiss artist Miriam Cahn was spray-painted at an exhibition in Paris on Sunday. The work “Fuck abstraction!”, against which French child protection groups had filed a lawsuit, was attacked.

The painting shows a petite figure, bound and kneeling, performing fellatio on a large silhouette. The photo can be seen in the exhibition “My serial thought” at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, which is dedicated to Cahn and in which violence is one of the themes.

For Cahn, the image illustrates how sexuality is used as a weapon of war, as a crime against humanity. The associations saw it as a glorification of child pornography, but failed in March in their request to remove the image from a Paris court.

Visitors disliked sex scenes between child and adult

This stated that the work would be shown in a context aimed at denouncing the horrors of war.

According to people involved in the case, a lone elderly man splattered the painting with light purple paint. After his arrest, he said that he did not like this staging of a sex scene between a child and an adult.

Macron responded on Twitter

Museum officials said they would file a complaint against the man. Miriam Cahn’s photo will remain part of the exhibition until the end of the exhibition on May 14 – now with paint splatters on the painting. So far, 80,000 people have visited the exhibition.

French President Emanuel Macron took to Twitter to respond to Sunday’s paint attack. In Monday’s text message, Macron spoke of an act of vandalism that represented an attack on France’s values. In France, art is free and respect for artistic creation is guaranteed. (SDA)
