A heartbreaking moment: two daughters hear their mother’s heart beat – but in a different body. In a hospital, Keren (19) and Tali Dee (17) met the woman in whose chest the heart of her deceased mother beats.
The two Israeli women lost their mother in a terrorist attack, the newspaper ‘Jewish News’ writes. When mother Lucy († 48) was driving the car with her two other daughters Maia († 20) and Rina († 15), there was an attack: the family was hit by shots fired by Palestinian terrorists in the northern Jordan Valley.
The two daughters died on the spot. Mother Lucy succumbed to her injuries a few days later in hospital.
“I was so moved”
Before her death, Lucy decided to donate her organs. Her organs were removed before burial. Thanks to Lucy, five people were able to survive. One of them: Lital Valenci (51). Before the transplant, she suffered from severe heart failure for five years.
The surviving daughters got to know Valenci. With a stethoscope, they could hear their mother’s heart beating. Daughter Keren felt reunited with her mother at the time: “It was so touching to meet Lital. We have lost so much, but we are comforted to know that many families have been saved from similar pain.”
It was also an emotional moment for the recipient: “I was so moved when I heard who gave me a heart. What an incredible woman and what an exemplary family.” Dan Aravot, the doctor who performed the transplant, was also on site: “There wasn’t a dry eye left in the room.” (darling)
