Riots in Ankara: Ukrainians and Russians clashed several times during the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly and even turned violent.
The countries’ representatives clashed for the first time when Russian State Duma deputy Olga Timofeeva gave a speech at the conference. According to “Pravda”, she wears the Saint George ribbon, a symbol of support for the Russian offensive war.
Session must be suspended
Behind her back, Ukrainian MPs try to unfurl a Ukrainian flag, but members of the Russian delegation intervene and try to snatch it away. The disruption led to the session being interrupted when the Ukrainian delegation was escorted out of the room.
The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Mustafa Şentop, announced a break and led the Ukrainian delegation out of the room. ‘Whoever gets to speak, gets to speak here. I will not allow anyone to disturb the peace and order of the event. If anyone has such intentions, they should leave the room,” he said.
Fighting in the hallways
Moments later, there is noise again in the corridors outside the conference. Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Marikovsky poses for a photo with the Ukrainian flag when a Russian representative snatches it from his hand.
Marikowski reacts rather harshly and attacks the Russians with his fists. A scuffle ensues and eventually the two are separated by the security service. (new)
