A man was burned to death in this hospital.

A man who had previously been forcibly restrained to a hospital bed by clinic staff was killed in a fire in the emergency room of a clinic in Pforzheim. While the other approximately 20 people in the emergency room were able to leave the building on their own on Tuesday evening, the heavily intoxicated man died, the Pforzheim police announced on Wednesday. Whether there are more injuries has yet to be determined.

The deceased was reportedly taken to the emergency room before the fire. He was fixated on his aggressive behavior towards other people.

The public prosecutor now wants to investigate the legality of the restraint and also investigate whether the restraint was the reason for the death of the man. In addition, it should be clarified whether the necessary precautions have been taken when dealing with the obviously aggressive patient.

Investigators have not yet been able to provide information about a possible cause of the fire. Initial estimates put the material damage from the fire in the millions.
