Chip group AMD also hit by weak PC sales

The downturn in the PC market also gripped the chip company AMD. In the last quarter, sales fell 9 percent year over year to $5.35 billion.

The decline in personal computer chip trade was particularly strong, falling 65 percent to $739 million. On the other hand, sales of chips for data centers remained stable at around $ 1.3 billion, AMD announced on Tuesday after the US stock market closed.

It has to get better

The bottom line was a loss of $139 million after being in the black from $786 million in the same quarter last year. AMD outperformed its larger rival Intel, which posted a quarterly loss of $2.8 billion last quarter. Intel revenue fell 36 percent year over year to $11.7 billion.

After the boom at the start of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, the global PC market is currently in decline. However, the industry expects an improvement in the second half of the year.

However, AMD disappointed the stock market with a revenue forecast of about $ 5.3 billion for the current quarter. The stock fell more than 4 percent in aftermarket trading.
