About 22 rockets were fired at Israeli cities on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Israeli army. Before that, the warning sirens sounded in several border towns. According to the military, four missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-aircraft system and 16 more landed in an open area. Already in the morning, three rockets landed on Israeli territory from the coastal strip.

According to paramedics, at least three foreigners have been injured by rocket splinters at a construction site. Among them is a 25-year-old man with serious injuries. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.

Israeli police also reported two other wounded who were being treated for fear. The army and police urged residents to stay near shelters.

A senior member of the militant Palestinian organization Islamic Jihad died this morning in Israeli custody after nearly three months of hunger strike. A spokesman for the Israeli prison authorities said 44-year-old Chader Adnan was found unconscious in his cell early this morning. As a result, militant Palestinian organizations in the Gaza Strip announced retaliatory measures.

Adnan was detained on suspicion of membership in a terrorist organization and supporting terrorism and hate speech, the spokesman for the Israel Prisons Authority said. The Islamist from Jenin in the West Bank began the hunger strike on February 5 following his arrest for suspected terrorist offences.
