“It wasn’t normal, but I thought nothing of it!” Bailey McBreen (24) suddenly had to burp ten times a day. She ignored it until she got stomach cramps too. Only then did the Florida nurse get a checkup at her own hospital. And received a shock diagnosis: the belching was a symptom of her previously undiscovered advanced-stage colon cancer.
Bailey McBreen visited a doctor in February 2022 after experiencing acid reflux, but medics dismissed it as an anxiety symptom. However, her condition worsened. She suffered excruciating pain, loss of appetite and was unable to go to the toilet.
On her Instagram, the woman, who also works as a sports influencer, described how her world had changed dramatically overnight: “I thought it could be a bowel obstruction in the worst case and had a CT scan done. I never thought in a million years that I could have stage 3 colon cancer.”
“It was like leaving my body”
The examination revealed that the tumor was blocking the intestines and her food could not be fully digested. This created gases, forcing Bailey McBreen to burp constantly. When the oncologist informed her of the find, she was shocked. “It was like leaving my body and watching the doctor diagnose me with cancer from above. Time slowed down and my heart started beating faster.”
With an emergency operation, the surgeons removed the tumor. Bailey McBreen has to undergo chemotherapy until August, but he is unbeatable: “I’ve decided I’m not ready to die. I’m ready to fight and do everything humanly possible to be healed again!”.
Bailey McBreen published her cancer story to save others from their fate: “If you have any unusual warning signs, even if it’s just a constant burp, get checked!” (jmh)
