A rendezvous of the stars in New York: Celebrities from the fashion, music and sports worlds flocked to the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night. The motto of the evening was the tribute to fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld († 85), who died in 2019, and the choice of clothing for the female stars was accordingly.
The most bizarre outfits
Three stars appeared as or based on Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette. Rapper Lil Nas X (24), rapper Doja Cat (27) and Hollywood star Jared Leto (51). His full body cat costume is one of the most spectacular looks of the evening.
Actress Nicole Kidman, 55, appeared almost 20 years ago in a Chanel dress she wore to a promotional shoot for perfume number 5. “I’m so glad I can still wear it,” she told AFP. Singer Dua Lipa (27) wore a cream-colored creation that Lagerfeld had made for Chanel in the nineties.
Other guests at the exclusive event included actress Penélope Cruz (49), singer Rita Ora (32), former tennis champion Roger Federer (41), models Giesele Bundchen (42), Cara Delevingne (30) and Kate Moss (49) and the musician couple Rihanna (35) and A$AP Rocky (34). The pregnant singer wore a white ball gown by Valentino while her husband wore a plaid Gucci skirt over jeans with a black suit jacket.
How much is dinner?
Even invited guests have to pay 45,000 francs for dinner. A minimum of CHF 270,000 is due for a seat at a table sponsored by a patron.
Traditionally, the Met Gala takes place on the first Monday in May. Proceeds benefit the museum’s fashion department, which dedicates its annual exhibition to the German fashion designer with the gray braid and dark glasses. From May 5 to July 16, 2023, some 150 of his creations and his sketches will be on display in the museum. (AFP/fmu)
