According to Syrian sources, Israel attacked the airport of the city of Aleppo and a nearby military airport.
A Syrian soldier was killed in an airstrike on Tuesday night, the Sana state agency reported. Seven other people were injured. Flight operations at Aleppo airport have been temporarily suspended. As usual in these cases, the Israeli military declined to comment on the reports.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, pro-Iran militias control the area. The attack hit a militia arms depot, according to the London-based observatory. The injured are said to be members of the militia. Sana reported that two civilians were among the victims.
The Israeli Air Force regularly bombs targets in neighboring civil war-torn Syria. The airports of Damascus and Aleppo have also been the target of attacks in the past. Israel wants to prevent archenemy Iran from expanding its military influence in Syria with the help of allied militias. Besides Russia, Iran is the main ally of the Syrian government.
