Following Prigozhin: Kadyrov apparently wants to set up his own anti-Western army

Chechen President Kadyrov is one of Putin’s staunchest supporters. It’s been quiet around him lately. But now he is apparently considering raising a militia to fight Western influence worldwide.

According to his own statements, the President of the Russian Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, is planning his own army “to protect the interests of the oppressed people”. This is reported by the Russian state agency Tass on May 1.

Chechnya's regional leader Ramzan Kadyrov arrives at the Moscow Kremlin on Friday, September 30, 2022, to attend a ceremony to sign the treaties for four regions of Ukraine to join Russia.

“I’ve been thinking more lately about creating a pretty good army that could travel all over the world to protect the nations that are currently being destroyed and eliminated by countries that are imposing their democracy,” Kadyrov said.

An army against countries that “impose their democracy” on others? It seems obvious that Kadyrov is primarily referring to the United States and the Western world. The military unit targeted by the Chechen leader will then apparently be active in countries around the world, fighting Western influence there.

This would strongly remind her of the Russian Wagner militia and its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. Before Wagner became known to the general public for his brutal actions in the war in Ukraine, the mercenaries were active in Syria and Mali, among others – always on the side of anti-Western forces.

So is Kadyrov mimicking Prigozhin? Only recently did the two appear publicly to explore opportunities for “collaboration,” as Ukrainian government adviser Anton Geraschtschenko wrote on Twitter. Details of the meeting are not known.

As “Tass” goes on to report, Kadyrov’s army should consist “exclusively of patriots” who are willing to sacrifice their lives for the mission. It is a “very difficult path”, but progress is being made, Kadyrov said.
