Israel offers to mediate the conflict in Sudan

Israel offered himself this Monday as a mediator in the current armed conflict in Sudan and, as a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to EFE, “the possibility of holding a meeting between the parties in Israel to achieve a ceasefire is being considered.”

“Since the outbreak of fighting in the country, Israel has been working through various channels to achieve a ceasefire, and the progress achieved in recent days in talks with the parties is very encouraging,” said Israel’s foreign minister, Eli Cohenthrough a statement.

“If there is any way Israel can help end the war and violence in the country, we are happy to do so,” he added.

The text published by Foreign Affairs also specifies that “Israel has offered to host a negotiating summit aimed at reaching an agreement that will end the violence and war in the country.”

Foreign affairs announced that the talks are led by the director general of the ministry, Ronen Levyand pointed out that the stabilization of the situation in Sudan would benefit from the signing of a peace agreement with Israel that was announced in 2020, but has not yet been implemented due to political instability in that country.

Following the conflict, several countries evacuated diplomatic staff and other citizens from Sudan.

The fights started in the past April 15 between The Sudanese army and the paramilitary group the Rapid Support Force (FAR). They came after weeks of tension over the reform of the security forces in negotiations to form a new transitional government.

Both powers were the architects of a joint coup that overthrew Sudan’s transitional government in October 2021.

Since the outbreak of the conflict, according to the testimony he offered on Friday World Health Organization (WHO)at least 413 people died and 3,551 were injured in Sudan.
