Moderator Tucker Carlson and American broadcaster Fox News go their separate ways

American news channel Fox News and Tucker Carlson, who hosted the 8 p.m. show, are going their separate ways, the broadcaster announced in a surprise announcement Monday.

According to Fox News, Friday, April 21, was the right-wing TV host’s last show. Fox News gave no reason for the split.

The news comes just under a week after media group Fox reached an out-of-court settlement with voting machine manufacturer Dominion for damages of 787.5 million dollars (about 714 million euros). Dominion had filed a lawsuit because Fox News had spread reports of alleged tampering with voting machines in the 2020 presidential election.

Carlson and his highly acclaimed daily evening show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” were also central to the process. Considered one of the channel’s most well-known personalities, Carlson always makes headlines. The moderator is known for spreading conspiracy theories and blatantly false reports and for inciting minorities. The talk show host also repeatedly appears on his show as a supporter of former US President Donald Trump.

Text messages from the moderator surrounding the Dominion trial became public. Carlson reportedly wrote to a staffer two months after the 2020 presidential election, “We are very, very close to ignoring Trump most nights. I really can’t wait. I hate him passionately.” The new revelations further question presenter Carlson’s credibility. Recently, outrage also arose over the fact that Carlslon showed some selected images of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 in his program and, in line with Trump, claimed that only peaceful protesters were out at the time.
