The Democrat praised the 58-year-old’s work over the past few years, writing, “I thank Susan for her service, advice and friendship. I will miss her.” Biden left open what Rice will do next. There have been several changes to senior White House posts in recent months — which is not unusual.

Rice previously held several senior positions in the U.S. government. During the tenure of President Barack Obama – at that time with Biden as vice president – she was first the US ambassador to the United Nations and later the national security adviser in the White House. When Biden took office, she gave her a key role in coordinating his administration’s domestic projects. (sda/dpa)
