Russia classifies Bulgarian investigative journalist and former Kremlin critic Christo Grozev as a “foreign agent”. The name of the 53-year-old appeared on Friday on the list published by the Russian Interior Ministry. According to Russian news agencies, a Moscow court ordered Grozev’s arrest on Friday, although he is not in Russia.
RIA Novosti news agency quoted a source as saying investigators accused Grozev of helping Russian journalist Roman Dobrochotov “cross the border illegally”. The domestic secret service FSB accused Grozev of supporting the Ukrainian secret service.
For the research platform Bellingcat, Grozev researched, among other things, the poisoning of the now imprisoned Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny and the Moscow offensive in Ukraine. Bellingcat also investigated the 2014 downing of the passenger jet MH17 over eastern Ukraine, which killed nearly 300 people. (sda/afp)
