No one’s life is in danger, the governor of the region bordering Ukraine, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said on Telegram on Friday. On Thursday evening, a massive explosion occurred in the middle of an intersection in Belgorod, tearing a crater about 20 meters in radius into the ground. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow later announced that a Russian fighter jet had “shot down unplanned munitions”. First there was talk of two injured women.
Governor Gladkow also wrote that all residents of a damaged apartment building had been temporarily relocated. Some stayed with relatives, others in the hotel.
Russia has been at war with Ukraine for 14 months. Attacks on the neighboring country are sometimes launched from Belgorod.
